My Approach

I provide systematic phonics instruction, teaching the relationships between letters and sounds. This approach encourages your student to succeed and apply their skills in both reading and spelling.

Gone are the days of “skip this word and come back to it” or “just look at the picture”. With my Orton-Gillingham approach, you will see your student break down words into their individual sounds with accurate word recognition.

I emphasize the structure of language, including phonology, morphology, and syntax, which is consistent with the science of reading.

I use multi-sensory techniques to engage multiple pathways in the brain during instruction, enhancing learning and retention. This is extra helpful for those with dyslexia, ADHD, and many other learning interferences.

Hey there, I’m Kayla, a total bookworm at heart and educator with 9 years of classroom experience under my belt. I thrive on empowering young readers, and I’m all about doing it the right way, using methods backed by research. Seeing the lightbulb moments for all kinds of learners, despite their obstacles, is what keeps me going! Fostering reading skills isn’t just a job for me, it’s what I truly love to do!

How do I know if my child is a good fit?
Any child of elementary age would benefit from my program, whether they need continued reinforcement of skills already learned or if we are starting from scratch. My program especially benefits:
Students with dyslexia or specific learning disabilities
Students who struggle with reading due to difficulties in decoding, fluency, comprehension, or spelling
Students with ADHD or executive functioning challenges as my program engages multiple senses and promotes active learning
